The present little book is due to the inestimable work of the wonderful team of Saptarishis Astrology Magazine. As an astrologer, as a beginner in the Vedic astrology, as an admirer of the best astrological magazine online in the world and as a person from abroad, I bow in front of this team and of all the astrologers who sign in its pages – thousands of pages of true astrology and astrological research.

Because the most articles are dedicated to translation in English of so many first class works from Sanskrit and Tamil, the authors of SA Mag articles are once again beyond any praise.

Under the title of Astrology Wisdom Along the Saptarishis Astrology Magazine I collected all the fragments from different shastras, all the sayings and all the short presentations of estimable or worthy of our consideration astrologers which accopmany or emphasize the texts. I suppose that this little book could be an opportune first stept for the very beginners in Vedic astrology, less aquinted with the Hindu culture and civilization or those who do not imagine yet what Hindu astrology really means.

All of us – especially the Europeans – are somehow informed or educated to know that Hindu wisdom means only the Sanskrit knowledge; as soon as we step towards Hindu astrology, we discover that the Tamil wisdom could be a very important part of it.

I parted the selected texts in three sections:

1.Sutras – where they are arranged in alphabetical order; at their end, under the „Other Sahstras”, there are shastras without any indication.

            2.Astrologers – where there are gathered all the short presentations of famous astrologers, be they ancient or modern, be they Indians or from the whole world;

3.Notes – where there are few very short sinthesys of different kind of astrology.

4.In the end of tthe book I let „The 1008 petals” because it usually ends a group of articles or even the volume of SA Mag.

I hope that this little book will be a spiritual impulse for each new astrologer to read, to know, to observe, to study, to research and to be able to learn all along his/her life.

Shri Sundaram told me: „Your destination is Jyotish”. I would dare to tell in the same manner: „The destination of a true astrologer is Astrology Itself”.

Full respect and gratitude towards the team and the astrologers in SA Mag,

Agastya Nadi

A Medieval Astrology Aphorism

If Jupiter arrives by transit or progression to the natal place of Venus, in her signs Taurus or Libra or Sagittarius or Cancer in trigone (120 degrees) or sextile will give marriage and happines.

A Tamil proverb says:

“Odiponavanakku Onpathamidathil Viyazhan, Agappattavanukku Attamathu Sani”.

This means: if any person facing an ordeal in his native soil happens to escape from there to a foreign land or becomes prosperous there – for this attainment, the position of Jupiter should be in the 9th from the Moon; if the man were to have a fortified spirit of  challange and face the ordeal which means he has undergo various troubles physically and finacially he shoukld have his Saturn in the eight place from the Moon.

Bhrighu Samhita by Shankar Adewal

*Between the age of 12 and 24, if Jupiter is in the house of Venus and has Venus opposite to it, one could be sure that the native would have a relationship or marriage during this period.

*If Saturn is being transited by Mars and its dispositor is placed 8 th in any sign one cold be sure that there will be reversal in his or her professional career.

*If Saturn is in Taurus and the next planet is Ketu in Libra for example and there are no planets between Saturn and Ketu, it would show that a person would take a long time to settle down and instead struggle.

*Ketu is the unknown portion of karma and the planet ruling the sign of Ketu is the incoming or past life, whereas Rahu controls the Karma distribution in this life

*Yogas combination made by Ketu will make a person great, but will destroy him whereas combinations made by Rahu will make the native enjoy powers lifelong, till his death.

*It will be seen that a debilitated Mars having Rahu ahead of it with no other planet in between and Moon 12 th to Mars and if it is horoscope of a lady, it can be predicted that she will be deceived by a person which will have a great impact on her destiny.

*Retrograde planets can mean many things, for example if one has a retrograde Jupiter it is indicative that the native was probably a drunkard in his past life, a very biased and prejudiced individual and this tendency would come in this life time too. This would be the inner trait and the character which would drive the native.

*Retrograde planets in the house and sign placed will signify negativity and non fulfillment of matters related to that sign. On the other hand, if they are well aspected or have powerful planets in conjunction or on either side of them, it will energize these planets and give the person energy to work positively and scale greater heights.

(vol. 3: Shloka: 2187-2188)

Special rule – Kali Yuga

According to Sage Garga, one borne even with 3 exalted planets will not beget Rajayoga effects unless there is a planet in simultaneous debility. This aplies to Kalyuga. In the said Yuga, without a debiltated planet, an exalted planet will become ineffective. Only with simultaneous presence of exalted and debilitated planets, Raja Yogas will fructify. Without debilitated planet, one with only an exalted planet will encur poverty.

Note: This seems to be a generale rule applicable to various ascendants.

(vol. 3: Shloka: 2804-2805)

At the time of commencement of a dasa, if the 4th lord is conjoined with a malefic, the dasa will give less happiness. In its sub-period (in its first sub-period) the native’s land and housing properties will be destroyed. He will incur enmity with superiors and friends.

(vol. 3: Shloka: 5230)

*When the lord of the sign occupied by Gulika, is strong and is posited in a trine or quadrant which happens to be his house, his exaltation house, his friendly house, then the native gets horses, elephants, great fame and kingdome and is endowed with beauty.

Jyotisha Phala Ratnamala

            Yoga for homosexuality

If Mercury and Saturn are in 7th house and they are aspected by Sun and Mars, the native becomes homosexual.

The 10th chapter

Initiation in a Mantra:

1) Moveable signs are good, common signs are neutral; fixed signs are useless for this function.

2) The effects of learning a mantra vary according to the month in which the initiation takes place. Chythra produces misery; Vysakha brings gain of gems; Jyestha is fatal; Ashada seriously affects relations; Sravana indicates exalted status; Badhrapadha leads to loss of children; Aswayuja shows well being; Krithika favors mental development; Margasira produces evil; Pushya inclines to ruin of the intellect; Magha tends to intellectual growth; Palguna makes the disciple liked and loved by all.

3) The 8 th house from the rising sign at the time of initiation should be vacant -10 th Chapter of Kalaprakasika

The 34th Chapter

Jupiter or Venus, situated in the lagna, aspected to benefics, nullify the evil effects of Gulika, Ardhaprahara, Bhujanga and Gridhra

Favorable Functions of Gulika – buying and selling (trade), death anniversary, liquidation of debt, opening ceremony, medical treatment, initiation, gift of land, study of Vedas – in respect to all these functions Gulika has no evil force. It is a benefic.

Chandrashtama shows no evil when the moon is on the increase, well placed in a benefic sign and holding a benefic Navamsa.

Gulika located in the rising sign produces no harm, when powerful Moon occupies the rising sign holding the Navamsa of a benefic or that of the lord of the day in question

The aspect of or association with Venus converts all evil into good.

The Sun and the Moon located in the 3rd, 6th or 11th place from each other, aspected to benefics, produce the same effect if the Moon and Venus be well dignified.

Kapila Nadi

Karika ‘Elephant’ Yoga

“When 12 th lord is strong, the native will live long to do acts to earn either Moksha or heaven or hell.

In Virgo Ascendant, if Jupiter is situated in Taurus sign, the married life will be damaged. If Jupiter is less than 10 degrees the married life will end in divorce, but if Jupiter is more than 20 degrees, the married life of the native will remain disturbed but there will not be divorce.”

Kumaraswamiyam, a Tamil classic

*Jeeve lagna atisampanna putramitra sukhairyuta

Jupiterin lagna in female chart makes her very prosperous with sons, friends & comforts.

*If Lord of the 8th is also lord of the lagna as in the case of Aries & Libra, he becomes good.

Medieval Astrology Aphorisms

*Capricorn in the 12H and Aquarius in the Asc (1stH) makes one have friends who are enemies between themselves.

*The ruler of the year (Varshaphal) in the 9th of the year give trips.

*Moon in the signs of Mars (Varshaphal) give trips.

*If the ruler Of the year is in the 4thH, will be impossible to travel this year.

*Moon in sigs of Jupiter gives children.

Mhriga Sukha Bhavanasthe,

Bhanuputro Naresh

Saturn in the 4th house is bad and not good but for the Libra lagna, saturn in the 4th is his own house, Capricorn gives Raja Yoga especially when with venus lord of the Ascendant.

Nadi Notes

*If Jupiter is aspected by Saturn then native will have to work very hard in his life, but if Saturn is aspected by Jupiter then person will be a workaholic and will beget respect out of it.

*Jupiter and Ketu in trine to each other can make religious minded but a person of few words.

*Jupiter’s placement in the 5H can give children who will outshine the native.

*If Ketu is associated with the sign Scorpio the native can be capable of getting secret knowledge.

*Aquarius is another mystic sign of the zodiac besides Scorpio and capable of giving to astrologers/philosophers deep research orientation.

Kula Nasha Yog – Family Destruction Combination

Malefics in Asc, 12H also contains malefics, 2H contains benefics & 7H contains malefics then it is a Kula Nasha Yog – Chapter 1.

Sarvagna Bhushana

*A powerful benefic in the 10th house inclines one to look at the various positions from the spiritual angle and realize the worthlessness and instability of the various things and enjoyments on the earthly planet and develops a renouncing spirit which is called Gnana.

*Malefics in the 10th house makes on look from a materialistic angle. Benefic in the house when powerful (positional strength, varga strength and Avasta strength) leads one to higher thinking.

Secretum Secretorum

Among them what Mercury the Babylonian says in his Aphorisms entitled Secret of Secrets, from which we have picked out 45, where we can find a lot of the knowledge in whose path we are in.

(1) The content of the first one is that anyone who pretends to gather the powers of the stars is forced to assume their character.

(2) The Sun should be asked for the raise of prestige, praising of fraternity, amplitude of designs, authority over the powerful, humiliation of the sovereigns, splendor of lights and vanishing of darkness.

(3) The Moon should be asked for fluidity of movements, disclosure of secrets, abundance of waters, extinguishing of fires, and invalidation of completed facts and dissolution of harmonic atmospheres.

(4) Saturn should be asked for limitation of movements, hiding of secrets, impoverishment of countries, decrease of intentions, temptation of souls and water stagnation.

(5) Jupiter should be asked for the accumulation of goods, conciliation of opinions, rejection of temptations, mitigation of grief and security of earthly and maritime paths.

(6) Mars should be asked for promotion of animosity, boldness of spirit, taming of beasts, subordination of passions, splendor of lights, generation of insurrection and submission of enemies.

(1) Venus should be asked for harmonization of the souls, expansion of enjoyment, rejection of preoccupation, influx of desires, nobility of lineage, extinguishing of fire and domestication of animals.

(2) The Scribe should be asked for manifestation of the hidden, study of mysteries, unfastening of the tongue, circulation of wealth, defamation and transmission of slanders.

(3) Abundance of smoke, untarnished animosity, observance of feast, intensity in invocations, procure as possible; election of the correspondences and minutia in the petition: those are the milestones of talismans.

(4) If the objective is in the nature of the ruler the acquisition will be easier, and vice versa.

(5) Signs can degenerate the actions of the celestial bodies and neutralize their positions, but they can also improve them.

(6) If the ascendant sign is not from the same nature of the request or the requester, the invocation would be meaningless and; the requester bewares!

(7) The talismans of fixed stars last longer than those of the planets.

(1) If possible, the planets must be reinforced with a fixed star from the same nature, because it concentrates the power of the influx and the duration of the work.

(2) When the request is from the same nature than the ascendant and the dominant star, and is reinforced with a fixed star, one can be sure that it will be obtained easily and the influx will be strengthened.

(3) For dynamic the Eagle Star must be used, for the static the Lira Star .

(4) Conjunction of celestial bodies is a great support that we have to take advantage of.

(5) Positions are as fundamental as conjunctions for talismans.

(6) The dominant star being in the Midheaven, exalted or in its domicile and taking part of the ascendant.

Tapaniya Upanishad – Brahma in Gopala

A person who even once chants the mantra “Klim krsnaya govindaya gopijanavallabha svaha” quickly attains the association of Lord Krishna. He does not attain any other result.

Other sutras without any indication:

*In Scorpio Ascendant if Venus is palced in the 3rd House in capricorn or in the 11th House in Vorgo Sign (his debilitation sign) the marital life of the subject is destroyed and he or she would have to get married twice.

*“Kumbhe cha neechabhavanepi balee surjeyo

Lagnesukhe cha dasamebhavu vita dasyath”

Meaning if Jupiter is in debility (even) in lagna the 4th or the 10th, he gives great health.

Thus some believe that Jupiter is in the 12th for Libra natives (3 and 6L), he is good since a “double negative” would make a positive.

*Argala influences must be studied both for the lagna and the 7th house before studying the good and the bad points of a horoscope.

*When Gulika occupies the Navamsa of the Atmakaraka the native will be a thief.

Dusthanapasthadhithara swagrihasthasthihaschet swakshetra bhavaphalameva karoti nanyat – If a planet owns two houses, one of which is a dusthana but it is in his own house, it gives the effects of the house where it is posited.

Lagnath anthyagrihadhipo balavathi swartte chirayuh sukhi – this dictum means if lord of the 12th is strong the native lives long with own wealth and happiness.

*While timing death, do not ignore the Varnada Rasi or its trines, whichever is most spoilt by malefics.

*In Leo Ascendant when Mars is situated in the 4 th House, the native leaves his

birth place after 35-40 years of age.

*Venus in 2H in sign Taurus, ones child will be having hearing defects or some problems in the face.

*In Aries Ascendant if Venus is situated in Taurus or Virgo or Libra signs, there will be divorce from the spouse after birth of one child.

*When Jupiter in his first round of transit touches Dragons Tail that is the year of

danger for the individual

In the 4th round of Jupiter’s transit development of house/landed property is denoted.

The 5th round of Jupiter is for children and their developments or fall back whereas the 6th round of Jupiter denotes the dangers to the native himself

When Saturn in transit sees the 8H from Jupiter or the planets therein or sometimes the lord of the 8th house from Jupiter, then death or troubles to the native’s is denoted.

Jupiter in Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces, the life of the native will be very good only after 41 years of age.

*Budha principle, represented by the Mercury, who is the fast moving planet of Creative Intelligence in action. Budha infuses intelligence, creativity, liveliness and joy into all phases of our daily life.

*When the ascendant is aspecte by Mercury the native will become an actor ar a dancer. But where the Pisces house is aspected by Nercury (Jaimini  aspects) the native become a doctor.

The Life of Al-Biruni (973-1048 AD)

Abu Rayhan Muhammed ibn Ahmad al- Biruni was born just before sunrise on 4th of September 973. His birthplace was the city of Kath (modern day Khiva) situated on the River Oxus in what was then the Principality of Khwarizm and is now Uzbekistan.

Between 1017 and 1030, al-Biruni travelled extensively in India, collecting material for his monumental survey of the history, customs and beliefs of the sub-continent. India was his most highly-acclaimed work during his lifetime. He also produced a major work on astronomy, known as the Masudic Canon, dedicated to Mahmud’s son, Ma’sud.

As well as the Elements of Astrology , he wrote important books on medicine, geography and physics and translated Ptolemy’s Almagest into Sanskrit. He died at Ghazna on 13th of December 1048, aged 75.

Chinese Mystic Chuang Tzu

Chuang Tzŭ was fishing in the P‘u when the prince of Ch‘u sent two high officials to ask him to take charge of the administration of the Ch‘u State.

Chuang Tzŭ went on fishing and, without turning his head, said “I have heard that in Ch‘u there is a sacred tortoise which has been dead now some three thousand years, and that the prince keeps this tortoise carefully enclosed in a chest on the altar of his ancestral temple. Now would this tortoise rather be dead and have its remains venerated, or be alive and wagging its tail in the mud?”

“It would rather be alive,” replied the two officials, “and wagging its tail in the mud.”

“Begone!” cried Chuang Tzŭ. “I too will wag my tail in the mud.”

When Chuang Tzŭ wife died, Hui Tz the Prime Ministerŭ went to condole. He found the widower sitting on the ground, singing, with his legs spread out at a right angle, and beating time on a bowl.

“To live with your wife,” exclaimed Hui Tzŭ, “and see your eldest son grow up to be a man, and then not to shed a tear over her corpse,—this would be bad enough. But to drum on a bowl, and sing; surely this is going too far.”

“Not at all,” replied Chuang Tzŭ. “When she died, I could not help being affected by her death. Soon, however, I remembered that she had already existed in a previous state before birth, without form, or even substance; that while in that unconditioned condition, substance was added to spirit; that this substance then assumed form; and that the next stage was birth. And now, by virtue of a further change, she is dead, passing from one phase to another like the sequence of spring, summer, autumn and winter. And while she is thus lying asleep in Eternity, for me to go about weeping and wailing would be to proclaim myself ignorant of these natural laws. Therefore I refrain.”

When Chuang Tzŭ was about to die, his disciples expressed a wish to give him a splendid funeral. But Chuang Tzŭ said: “With Heaven and Earth for my coffin and shell; with the sun, moon, and stars, as my burial regalia; and with all creation to escort me to the grave,—are not my funeral paraphernalia ready to hand?”

“We fear,” argued the disciples, “lest the carrion kite should eat the body of our Master;” to which Chuang Tzŭ replied: “Above ground I shall be food for kites; below I shall be food for mole-crickets and ants. Why rob one to feed the other?”

Chuang Tzŭ and Hui Tzŭ had strolled on to the bridge over the Hao, when the former observed: “See how the minnows are darting about! That is the pleasure of fishes.”

“You not being a fish yourself,” said Hui Tzŭ, “how can you possibly know in what consists the pleasure of fishes?”

“And you not being I,” retorted Chuang Tzŭ, “how can you know that I do not know?”

“If I, not being you, cannot know what you know,” urged Hui Tzŭ, “it follows that you, not being a fish, cannot know in what consists the pleasure of fishes.”

“Let us go back,” said Chuang Tzŭ, “to your original question. You asked me how I knew in what consists the pleasure of fishes. Your very question shows that you knew I knew. I knew it from my own feelings on this bridge.”

“May I ask,” said Tzŭ Kung, “about divine men?” “Divine men,” replied Confucius, “are divine to man, but ordinary to God. Hence the saying that the meanest being in heaven would be the best on earth; and the best on earth, the meanest in heaven.”

Chuangtzu – The Tranquil Taoist

According to the book of, an old man is seen by some followers of Confucius swimming in a raging torrent; suddenly, he disappears. The pupils of Confucius rush to save him, but the man reaches the bank entirely unaided.

Asked how he had pulled off this remarkable feat of survival, the man replied that he had simply let himself go with the descending and ascending currents in the water. The true Taoist, in other words, moulds his senses, body and mind until they are at one with the currents of the world without.

Our destiny changes with our thoughts; we shall become what we wish to become, do what we wish to do, when our habitual thoughts correspond with our desires. (Orison Swett Marden)

“What you are you are, and destiny is destiny. Make a dog an emperor and still he will lick the grinding wheel.”

D.V.Subba Rao – A Giant Of Astrology

From the writings of Late D.V.Subba Rao, a giant of astrology:

In Bhaskara’s Bhava Deepika, it is said that a benefic in the 10th is necessary to perform religious sacrifices leading to Moksha. Guru in the 10th makes one a Gnani (knowledge man) but Ketu in 10th can advance the native further after real knowledge, devotion and yogik action leading to ultimate salvation, that is, while the theoretical part of spiritualism is governed by Jupiter, the practical side of spiritualism is dominated by Ketu.

Kamadehenu Yoga is caused when the 11th lord occupies a kendra and the native is revered by kings, own women and is intelligent – Vasista Jataka.

When the 5th lord attains a kendra, Padmaraga yoga is caused. This makes one annihilate enemies. – Vasista Jataka

When the 10th lord obtains a kendra and aspected by a benefic this yoga called Suprajata Yoga is caused. The native will enjoy life well and becomes a famous – Vasista Jataka

Priyamruti yoga is caused when the 7th lord aspects the 8th lord. The native will become a widow in the dasa of the 8th lord.

The lords of 5th and 6th in conjunction occupying the 3rd bhava, confers this yoga called Saradeepa Sakti Yoga. These people are insignificant, they suffer many sided agonies, they cannot live in their own houses. These results are severe for persons born

Firmicus Maternus (4th Century Astrologer): Ancient Astrology

*A bright star is in the eleventh degree of Aries. Whoever has the ascendant in this star, if Jupiter is with it or in trine aspect to it, will be a great, powerful leader, a friend of kings, holding important land. He will die at the appointed time.

*If, when Mars is in the seventh house, Saturn is either on the ascendant or the MC, or if the full Moon is moving toward Mars or the waning Moon to Saturn, this indicates deadly catastrophes. The native will encounter accusations, chains, prisons, condemnations on capital charges. Or he is forced to meet wild beasts, is thrown over a precipice, or severely wounded in domestic plots, or killed by bandits. Or he is drowned in a shipwreck. All these are decided by the signs.

*For if Mars is in an earth sign the native is forced to meet wild beasts; in fixed signs he is crushed by ruins or thrown over a precipice; in watery signs he perishes in a boat; in human signs he is killed by a sword.

*Mars in the eighth house by day either denies inheritance or strips it away in proscription.

*If he has the Sun and Moon in opposition he indicates blindness. Alone in this house he predicts poverty, difficulties, fevers, riots, revolutions, dangers.\

*Those who have Mars in the eighth house by night will be intelligent, shrewd, and involved in dangers. They will be engaged in well-known public activities but suffer violent death, or a sudden one, such as happens to apoplectics. But if Jupiter is in aspect to Mars in this house or is together with him, these evils are to a large extent lessened.

*Mars in the ninth house will be favorable in regard to life and fame. And if Jupiter is on the ascendant he makes the natives happy and has them win whatever they seek. If Mars is in the ninth house by night and Jupiter is on the ascendant, this indicates great power of administration and right of the sword, and it makes leaders of armies. Iranganti Rangacharya  – Muhurtha Sindhu

In the presence of Ravi Yogas, the evil yogas have no effect. Count the Suns transit nakshatra to the Moons nakshatra. If the Moons Nakshatra is the 4th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 13th and 20th Ravi yoga forms.

If the Amrita yoga and Siddhi yoga form simultaneously, the day is considered evil, like the combination of honey and ghee (clarified butter) – Jyotishtatva

The nakshatra in which the solar or lunar eclipse occurs should be avoided for auspicious functions for 6 months, if it is full eclipse, for 3 months if half and 1 month if it is 1/4th.

Johannes Schöner (January 16, 1477 in  Karlstadt am Main – January 16, 1547 in Nürnberg) (aka, Johann Schönner, Jean Schönner, Joan Schoenerus) was a renowned and respected German Humanist Renaissance Mathematicus. It is best to refer to him using the usual 16th century Latin term mathematicus as the areas of study to which he devoted his life were very different from those now considered to be the domain of the mathematician. He made some of the oldest globes still in existence. Some of them show areas before they were discovered, like the Magellan Strait and the Antarctic. He was an astronomer, astrologer, geographer, cosmographer, cartographer, mathematician, globe and scientific instrument maker and editor and publisher of scientific tests. In his own time he enjoyed a European wide reputation as an innovative and influential globe maker and cosmographer and as one of the continents leading and most authoritative astrologers. Today he is remembered as an influential pioneer in the history of globe

making and as a man who played a significant role in the events that led up to the publishing of Copernicus’ “De revolutionibus” in Nürnberg in 1543.

Chapter Hradayarogadhikaraha of the ancient classic Veerasimhavalokah’ Shirorogadhikarah  Diseases of the Head

Many Jyotish reasons given in text but not being mentioned here except … 3 rd lord see in which Navamsa it is placed, this Navamsa Rasi Lord see where it is placed in Navamsa, that navamsas lord note and this lord be aspected by a kendra positioned malefic (last point to be observed in D1 or D9 not mentioned) Or in Janma Kundali (1 st divisional) Saturn, Rahu or Mars be conjoined in one house or if in Asc there is a malefic planets Sign and Asc lord be conjoined with Guru and Moon (note benefics here instead of malefics) then diseases of head/brain is formed.

Head Diseases

If in previous births one opposes the instructions of brothers in gurus lineage, or of Guru or Mother or Father then in next life he will get diseases of the head. In this situation he should resort to medicines given in Vaidic Shastra. If a Brahmachari (not married man) in his previous life does the Karma of Praayop Veshan and Naishikaadi Vrato Ka Tyag he does then in next life he gets diseases of the head. For this he needs to feed 50 brahmins and do Uddanndheti Mantra recitation. He should also do Havan of Kushmand.

Late B.D.Dhanwantari – Bad Years for Marriage

1.If Jupiter is in Ascendant then marriage done before the age of 22 will be most fruitful and better.

2.Sun is in Asc and 7H is empty then one should marry before 24th year.

3.Moon in Asc then marriage done at the age of 24 destroys the mother and wealth.

4.If Moon is in the 7H then marriage done at the age of 24 or 25 gives bad results.

5.Venus in Asc then marriage done at the age of 24 or 25 destroys the woman and wealth.

6.If Venus is in the 4th house then marriage done at the age of 22, 24, 29, 32, 39, 45 is considered inauspicious and there would be chances of more than one marriage.

7.If Venus is in the 7H then marriage should be done after the age of 25

History suggests that the number of planets afflicting are more indicative of a crash and panic than the preciseness of the orb.

Astrological Summary Of Past Panics

What to look for: Planets in the constellations Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius.

Planets in Pisces are opposite the US Neptune and square the US Mars.

Planets in Gemini are conjunct the US Mars and square the US Neptune.

Planets in Virgo are conjunct the US Neptune and square the US Mars.

Late K.V. Sivarama Iyer on Sexuality

Venus posited in the 7 th in vargas of Saturn or Mars and aspected by Saturn and Mars will have no moral code and no constancy.

It is impossible to divine what all things a man will do to quench his sexual needs when the lord of the 10 th house is aspected by Saturn or when the lord of the 10 th posited in Aries or Scorpio fully aspected by Venus

William Lilly, 17 th century astrologer

*If the Lord of the twelfth be in the sixth, or the Lord of the sixth in the twelfth, or the Lord of the ascendant in the twelfth, or the Lord of the twelfth in the ascendant, or the Lord of the eighth in the ascendant, or the Lord of the ascendant in the eighth, in a Question where suspicion of Witchcraft is, it is probable; otherwise not so: But the Judgment succeeding I have found more certain.

*It’s a received, general Rule that if one Planet be Lord of the ascendant and twelfth house, that then the Sickness is more than natural: when Saturn is Lord of the ascendant and twelfth, and in the twelfth Retrograde, or in the 7th or eighth house in the same condition, and the Moon being Lady of the sixth, apply to Saturn, we constantly judge the party enquiring is Bewitched or Fore-spoken, or that an evil Spirit hath power over him, and that the Infirm will be sore oppressed and disturbed in his Fancy, if not distracted.

*If the Lord of the ascendant be Combust, or infortunate in the twelfth, or joined to the Lord of the twelfth, there may be great feare, that the party enquiring or enquired for is Enchanted or Bewitched, or else some evil Spirits does haunt him.

Masha’allah ibn Atharī (c.740-d.815 AD)

Was an 8th Century Persian Jewish astrologer and astronomer from the city of Basra (now located in modern day Iraq) who became the leading astrologer of the late 8th century. The Arabic phrase ma sha`a allah indicates acceptance of what God has ordained in terms of good or ill fortune that may befall a believer. His name is usually Latinized as Messala or Messahalla. The Messala crater, on the Moon, is named after him.

As a young man he participated in the founding of Baghdad in 762 by working with a group of astrologers led by Naubakht the Persian to pick an electional horoscope for the founding of the city.

He wrote over twenty works on astrology, which became authoritative in later centuries at first in the Middle East, and then in the West when horoscopic astrology was transmitted back to Europe beginning in the 12th century.

Mashallah wrote works on Astral sympathies, otherwise known as astrology. The task of astrologers such as him and Naubakht was to optimize such influences.

His real name was probably Manasseh or Jethro, and Latin translators named him Messahala (with many variants, as Messahalla Messala, Macellama, Macelarma, Messahalah ). He flourished under the Caliph al-Mansur, and became one of the earliest astronomers and astrologers of the Islamic era.

Science historian Donald Hill writes that Mashallah was originally from Khorasan. Of his over 20 works, few remain. Only one of his writings is still extant in its original Arabic, but there are many Medieval Latin and Hebrew translations.

One of his most popular books in the Middle Ages was the De scientia motus orbis, translated by Gherardo Cremonese. Mashallah’s treatise De mercibus (On Prices) is the oldest extant scientific work in Arabic. The notable 12th century scholar and astrologer Abraham ibn Ezra translated two of Mashallah’s astrological treatises into Hebrew: She’elot and adrut (Steinschneider, “Hebr. Uebers.” pp. 600-603). One work is available in English: On Reception, translated by Robert Hand from the Latin edition by Joachim Heller of Nuremberg in 1549.

Old astrologer from an ashram in Haridwar

In Virgo Ascendant, if Jupiter is situated in Taurus sign, the married life will be damaged. If Jupiter is less than 10 degrees the married life will end in divorce, but if Jupiter is more than 20 degrees, the married life of the native will remain disturbed but there will not be divorce.

Old astrologer from Saurashtra

If there is strong relation between the 5th House, 2nd House and the 7th House, the native will fall in love affairs. He or she will also get response from the opposite sex and will also marry at the same place.

If the 7th House is weak, the native will get a response from the opposite sex but will not be able to marry the beloved.

Sage Garga

Sage Narada

*The planet subjected to Vedha (or obstacle) will not produce even an iota of good effects. Hence, Vedha should be assessed suitably and only then good and bad effects of planetary transits should be declared.

*The predictions of an astrologer who does not consider the various Vedhas will be false and he will become a laughing stock.

*According to Sage Narada ‘‘The Ascendant (in the heavens) remains in rule for a thousandth part of even the minutest space of time. It is impossible even for Lord Brahma to know of this. Then what of ordinary mortals?’’

  1. Santhanam

*Legendary Rise will follow transit Jupiter’s retrogression on the natal degree or 180 thereof of a favorable planet in the 9 th house.

*The Sun-Moon combination in the 7 th house points to unhappy relations between the parents of the native

*If the 4 th lord occupies Scorpio, it is the mother the native will not care for.

*If the 7 th lord is in the 5 th house he will portend difficulties in respect of married life and children’s affairs. This does not apply to Virgo and Gemini births

*If the 5 th lord is in the 7 th house then similar effects as above except in the case of Leo and Scorpio ascendants

*Should the 12 th lord from natal asc be in Pisces Navamsa one will shine in foreign countries.

*Venus joining Rahu/Ketu/Mars in Leo will lead to utter disappointment in married life. And possibly a great misfortune by separation or early loss of spouse.

*Should the 5 th lord from the ascendant be in Hastha Nakshatra the native will face many impediments in obtaining progeny, mercury though would be an exception

*Jupiter in the 5 th or 9 th will confer high intuitive powers if the native resorts to devout worship of Lord Shiva by reciting Panchakshari Mantra or Mritiunajaya.

Late R. Santhanam’s Uvacha

*If the 4 th lord occupies Scorpio, it is the mother the native will not care for.

*Marriage results in the dasa bhukti periods of planets who are in mutual 2/12 or 6/8 positions in Navamsa will bring undesirable effects.

*If Rahu occupies the 4 th from Mercury one will not attain an appreciable academic record.

Shri Gajanan Maharaj of Shegaon

The state of Maharashtra has produced a huge number of mystics and saints in India. Let’s see an instance in the life of the legendary Gajanan Maharaj.

One day Maharaj went to the Nilakanth temple near the village and desired to stay there. Patil built a palm cottage for him and people started visiting the place. Once a group of Gossains (a type of Sadhu – saint) claiming to be the disciples of one Brahmin Guruji reached the place where Baba was staying. The pretentious Sadhus demanded halwa, puri (a variety of food in India) and ganja (opium) from Patil. They also told him that by doing so he would get more virtue than by serving a mad and naked person like Gajanan Maharaj.

After taking his food just in order to prove his superiority over Maharaj, the group leader, Brahmagiriji started lecturing on Bhagavad-Gita to draw attention of people. He started explaining “Nainam chhindanti Sastrani, Nainam Dahati Pavakam”- meaning ‘neither weapons can destroy the soul nor can fire burn it’. In spite of his efforts, people were found to be collecting around Gajanan Maharaj who was smoking his Chilum (clay tobacco pipe) sitting on a wooden bed right opposite to Brahmagiriji. His ego was hurt and he became very angry finding absence of proper public appreciation and attention.

Strange are the ways of Sadgurus. In this situation a strange thing happened. The bed on which Maharaj was sitting suddenly caught fire.

As the fire rose up the disciples of Maharaj requested him to get out of fire and also started arranging for water. Maharaj said that neither water would be used to extinguish fire nor would he get out of the fire bed. Addressing Brahmagiriji who was enjoying the sight, Maharaj said, “since you have been telling people for the last one hour that neither weapon can destroy nor fire can burn the soul, please come and prove it by sitting on this fire.” On this Brahmagiriji did not react but tried to avoid the situation.

Then Maharaj asked a physically strong disciple to catch hold of Brahmagiriji and bring him before Maharaj. One can well imagine the condition of a pretentious sadhu (saint) in such a situation. His ego was totally shattered and he repented not only for his behavior but also for his pretentiousness. Maharaj pardoned him and advised him on the path to be followed for spiritual upliftment.

Srinivasan Shastry – Bhrighu Nadi Sangraha

*In a female horoscope when Mars contacts Rahu or Saturn before touching Venus marriage will be delayed.

*Jupiter in his 3rd round when he touches the 3rd house lord or the planet in the 3rd house from Jupiter in the birth chart, the native will face lot of problems. This effect will be worse when the 3rd house lord or the 3rd house has a malefic in it, but when Sun aspects the 3rd house the effect in it will reduced to a maximum extent

*The planets in the 7th house to Jupiter tells about the natives friends and when Jupiter in his rounds of transit touches Sun or is in the 7th house to Sun the native will be getting good name and fame.

N.Srinivasan Shastry – Bhrighu Nadi Sangraha

*When Saturn touches/sees Rahu in his 1st round of transit, that is the age of beginning of the profession/ business for the individual.

*The age of profession/business is known by the number of signs between Saturn and Rahu or at times Venus, the time taken by Saturn to reach Rahu in the birth chart is the age of profession (count the number of signs and multiply by 2.5 that is the age of profession/business).

*When Jupiter touches Venus in his rounds of transit it shows the native will get money as Venus is the significator of money.

*When Jupiter touches Sun, native will earn some good name and fame.

Book of LiehTzü

Chapter 6: Effort & Destiny

Yang Chu had a friend called Chi Liang, who fell ill. In seven days’ time his illness had become very grave; medical aid was summoned, and his sons stood weeping round his bed. Chi Liang said to Yang Chu: ‘Such excess of emotion shows my children to be degenerate. Will you kindly sing them something which will enlighten their minds? Yang Chu then chanted the following words: ‘How can men be aware of things outside God’s ken? Over misfortune man has no control, and can look for no help from God. Have doctors and wizards this knowledge that you and I have not?

The sons, however, did not understand, and finally called in three physicians, Dr Chiao, Dr Yü and Dr Lu. They all diagnosed his complaint; and Dr Chiao delivered his opinion first: ‘The hot and cold elements of your body,’ he said to Chi Liang, ‘are not in harmonious accord, and the impermeable and infundibular parts are mutually disproportionate. The origin of your malady is traceable to disordered appetites, and to the dissipation of your vital essence through worry and care. Neither God nor devil is to blame. Although the illness is grave, it is amenable to treatment.’ Chi Liang said: ‘You are only one of the common ruck,’ and speedily got rid of him. Then Dr Yü came forward and said: ‘You were born with too little nervous force, and were too freely fed with mother’s milk. Your illness is not one that has developed in a matter of twenty‐four hours; the causes which have led up to it are

of gradual growth. It is incurable.’ Chi Liang replied: ‘You are a good doctor,’ and told them to give him some food. Lastly, Dr Lu said: ‘Your illness is attributable neither to God, nor to man, nor to the agency of spirits. It was already fore‐ordained in the mind of Providence when you were endowed with this bodily form at birth. What possible good can herbs and drugs do you? ‘You are a heaven‐born physician indeed!’ cried Chi Liang; and he sent him away laden with presents.

Not long after, his illness disappeared of itself

Chapter 8: Causality

In the east of China there was a man named Yüan Ching Mu, who set off on a journey but was overcome by hunger on the way. A certain robber from Hu‐fu, of the name of Ch’iu, saw him lying there, and fetched a bowl of rice‐gruel in order to feed him. After swallowing three mouthfuls, Yüan Ching Mu opened his eyes and murmured, ‘Who are you?’ ‘I am a native of Hu‐fu, and my name is Ch’iu.’ ‘Oh misery!’ cried Yüan Ching Mu, ‘are not you the robber Ch’iu? What are you feeding me for? I am an honest man and cannot eat your food.’ So saying, he clutched the ground with both hands, and began retching and coughing in order to bring it up again. Not succeeding, however, he fell flat on his face and expired.

Now the man from Hu‐fu was a robber, no doubt, but the food he brought was not affected

thereby. Because a man is a robber, to refuse to eat the food he offers you, on the ground that it is tainted with crime, is to have lost all power of discriminating between the normal and the real.

The Way of Zen – Mountains are Mountains

The famous saying of Ch’ing-yüan Wei-hsin (Seigen Ishin):

Before I had studied Zen for thirty years, I saw mountains as mountains, and waters as waters. When I arrived at a more intimate knowledge, I came to the point where I saw that mountains are not mountains, and waters are not waters. But now that I have got its very substance I am at rest. For it’s just that I see mountains once again as mountains, and waters once again as waters. 13 Ch’uan Teng Lu.

“Before a man studies Zen, to him mountains are mountains and waters are waters; after he gets an insight into the truth of Zen through the instruction of a good master, mountains to him are not mountains and waters are not waters; but after this when he really attains to the abode of rest, mountains are once more mountains and waters are waters.” (Essays in Zen Buddhism – First Series 24)

The Mayonnaise Jar

Contributed By Carole McMechan, Canada

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle,

When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,

Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class

And had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly,

He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

‘Now,’ said the professor, as the laughter subsided,

‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things – family, children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions –

Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else –The small stuff.

‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ He continued,

‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,

You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Play With your children.

Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

‘Take care of the golf balls first —

The things that really matter.

Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.’

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.

‘I’m glad you asked’.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.’

Please share this with other “Golf Balls”

I just did……

The Nature of True charity

Once Arjuna asks Krishna, when every king, including the Pandavas are doing great charity and giving away things to the poor generously. Then why Karna alone is praised for his generosity.

Krishna, the next day, takes Arjuna to the outskirts and by his powers creates a Golden and a silver mountain, and asks Arjuna to donate the mountains to others, before Sun set. Arjuna, seeing the small mountains, laughs and says, it’s not a big deal. So he calls everyone from the surrounding villages and gives them a piece of the mountain by breaking the mountain. But to his shock, he sees that the mountain grows by the same size he breaks it and its almost sun set and even after distributing to everyone and tired of the act, he almost gives up, saying it’s his maya (illusion) and he can’t win over it.

Then Krishna sends for Karna just before sunset and asks Karna to donate the mountains before sunset. Karna just calls two passerby, asks one to take the golden mountain and the other to take the silver mountain and walks away.

Krishna says to Arjuna – this is generosity. You were not liberal to give away everything but Karna can give away anything to anyone and that’s why he is great.
