Study of Bhaava – Details
1 . Sarvatra bhavagrhatathpatikarakhyai-
chinthyani bhavajaphalanyakhilani yukthya,
nrnnam vilagnabhavanaadhatthavaa shashaankaath
The results of the Bhaava should not be predicted without intelligently consulting Bhava rashi, Lord of Bhava, Karaka, planets along with all these, the planets which are looking at all these, the various shadvargas (like say drikonas).This study of Bhaava has to be done from Lagna or Chandra.
We talk about saints and sinners in the following
Sowmyam shubhani khalu bhavaphalani karya-
Ranyani hanyurapare vipareethameva;
Ekagrasya tu shubhashubhakaarakatve
Praapte hyayam balayuthaha shubhadhonyatthanyaha
Saints perform saintly duties; they destroy all that is non-holy.On the other hand sinners will induce non-holy acts, destroy all that is holy. Due to domination and discrimination all good and all bad can happen from a single planet. In such cases if the planet is strong all good things will happen and if the planet is weak all bad things will happen.
Due to positional differences sometimes saint can become a sinner and vice versa. We discuss about that here,
Papagrahaa balayuthaaha shubhavargasamsthaaha
Sowmyaa bhavanthi shubhavarggagasowmyadhrshtaha
Praayena; chaapaganagaa vibalaascha sowmyaaha
If the sinning planets become strong and it is placed in the saintly position, and when it is looked at by the saintly planet from a saintly position then one becomes holy gradually with time.( one gradually goes on doing saintly acts). In the same way if the saintly planets are weak and placed in the sinning position and when looked at by sinning planets one gradually goes on to perform sinning acts.
We now discuss about the thoughts of good and bad results of various bhaavas and the rituals connected and the time period during which the results happen
Sambandhatho bhavathi, charavashadh dhashadhou,
We need to think about the various features of Bhaava like character, body, beauty etc, The planet where the Bhaava lord is positioned in the Bhaava, the planet looking at Bhaava – these also can produce Bhaava but feeling the results is a question, one has to think. Between Bhaava and Lagna lord, the yoga, drshti and all relationships can be felt, then one should think when it can be possible. Each result has its own Chaara which can result in (1) Dasha(2)Malefics etc.
We shall discuss when the Bhaava results will surely occur
Bhaave shubharkshay shubhanathamithrai-
Yyuktay balaadyairavalokithey vaa
Bhaavaadhipay kaarakakhecharay vaa;
Balaanvithay, siddhimupaithi bhavaha
If Bhaava has a benefic raashi – then, strong benefic planet, Bhaava lord’s relation, its yoga or drshti occurring on Bhaava; Bhaava lord or Bhaava Kaaraka becoming strong; these will surely fetch Bhaava results.
We now discuss how, even if Bhaava results happen, one may not feel it or Bhaava results may not happen at all.
We discuss (1) Chaara results in 11 Chapter (2) Dasha malefics in 12 Chapter.
Rayuktadhrshteshu na bhavalabhaha.
For Bhava, Bhava Lord and all others, if the yoga or dhrshti of malefic, Bhava lord enemy, Ashtama Lord happens although Bhava results occur one may not feel it and will be wasted. If the above mentioned Bhava, Bhava lord becomes weak and the yoga and drshti of benefics, Bhaava Lord, Bhava lord relatives not happening then the Bhava results will not happen at all.
Another reason for Bhaava becoming weak and the another reason for improvement in bhaava is discussed below
Trikonagairvaa sakalaischa paapaihi
Bhaavasya naasham; shubhadaisthu vrddheem
Samaadisheth; kaarakatho visheshath.
If the malefics stay on either sides, thrikona or quadrants of Bhaava, Bhaava Lord or karaka then the Bhaava will be destroyed. On the other hand if benefics stay in these positions then Bhaava will prosper. These should be imagined from the Kaaraka’s house.
We now discuss about the good and bad things of Bhaava
Paapena pathya balinaa samayythe
Dhrshte cha bhavay sati dhushtabhavaha
Thenaabalenaathra yuthay cha dhrshte
Kruchrath bhaveth, kutsithabhavalabhaha
When the bhaava lord is in the sinning position, this lord because of its strength if its sight or yoga has fallen on the bhaava, the results of the bhaava would turn out to be very bad But if the sinning lord looks at the bhaava very weakly or positioned weak then the result coming out of it will be very difficult and even if the result turns out it will be very criticizing.
We discuss about the common likes and dislikes below
The Lagna lord’s yoga dhrishti and central triangular position will be very auspicious for all the bhava. On the other hand the yoga, dhrishti all mutual relationships of the bhava lords of 6,8 and 12 is considered inauspicious.
Let’s discuss below what characters can cause bhava to produce results
Lagnalagneshasambandhath tatbhavanubhavaha suthaha
Sambandhath punaranyoshaam thadhrsham phalamadisheth
Whichever Bhavas are for Bhava lord and Karakas, the Lagna and the lagna lord’s yoga and dhrshti or any relationships…….
From the above shloka more detailed explanation is given below
Mrthishvaro mrthyubhayam karothi;
Yogekshanadhyai, rashubho visheshath.
With the relationships of Yoga, Drishti, shadvarga the 6th Bhava lord can create enemies, 8th bhava lord can create death, 12th lord can create relocation. If all these lords are sinners all the unholy results can occur strongly.
Lets see in which Rashi are the bhava results born or created
Yeshu sthithaa bheshva,thavaamshakeshu;
Thadhrashijaathaascha bhavanthi bhaavaa-
Bhava results will be born or created in one of the raashis of the lords of Lagna, Chandra, bhaava OR it may be born in their Navamsa Raashi. It may be born in their exalted or delibitated raashis also.
Which Raashi can produce auspicious results for a Bhaava
Mrksheshu jaatashcha thathaiva shastaha
Raashyamshakaadhou cha bhavanthyanishtaha
The results will be good if born in the Rashis of the Bhava lord, the planet posited in the bhava, the planet looking at a Bhava. The results will be bad for the 6,8,12 lords of posited in the Rashi and their Navamsa Rashi
Following will explain about the star that can result in Bhava
Bhavanaam janma nirdhishenmathimaan
The sphutas of lagna lord and karaka planet when added will show up a day on which the bhava will be born OR it can also be born on the star when the sphutas of Lagna lord and the Bhava lord are added.
Lets discuss the Rashi in which the Bhava will be born
Kaaraka yukte Raashou,
Navamshakay vaapi, thannavaamshe vaa;
Sphutayogay bhavajanma vaktavyam
The Bhava will be born either during each result of the karaka planet posited in a Rashi or its Navamsa Rashi ORit will be born in the during the rashi when the sphutas of Sun and Karaka gets added.
Now, we discuss in which direction the Bhava is born and its distance
Bhaavaa bhava, nthudhitakhedagrhamshakaisthai-
Nmargapramaanamapi tatra vadecharadhyaihi
The Bhava lord or the planet posited in the Bhaava or the planet looking into the Bhaava would be the directions in the bhaava results will be seen. OR it could be born in the directions where the planets like the Bhaava lord, Kaaraka and the Navamsa are posited. From the above planets which ever is taken for deciding the directions, and if it is posited in a Rashi or Navamsa which is CHARARASI the Bhava results are far, if it is UBHAYA RASI it is not so far, and if it is STHIRA RASI it is near.
We now discuss on how many Bhava results can occur and its various characteristics
Bhaava; Sthadamsheshagunaanvithaa syuhu
The Bhaava result is based on the complete Navamsa number of the Bhaava lord. Each Navamsa Lord’s character is assigned to its Bhaava. If the above mentioned Navamsa lords are weak it destroys the Bhaava; if strong the Bhava will flourish.
- The authority on the directions for the planets are as follows. The east (kizhakku) direction is for Sun, the direction of fire is for Venus; THEKKU is for Mars; Nirrthi is for Rahu; Padinhar is for Saturn; Wind direction is for Moon, Vadakku is for Mercury; Eeshana is for Jupiter
“Pragaadhya Ravishukralohithathamahasourenduvith soorayaha” is a saying.
If the bhaava results can occurbased on the conditions mentioned before, we will now discuss as when will it occur based on the shloka given below
Bhaavay, thadeeshasthithabhamshakay vaa,
Thayshaam trikonay cha yadaa charanthi;
Sthadhaa tu bhaavaha saphala bhavanthi.
If the planets of Lagna Lord, Bhava Lord, Karaka is transiting in a CHAARA , during the positioning of Bhaava Rashi, the Rashi where the Bhaava lord is posited, its Navamsa Rasi and the trikona of all these then the Bhaava results will occur.
If we know that the Bhaava results will occur and it will be destroyed, we discuss when that will happen
Yadhaa charathi thathraiva randrapo maandibheshwaraha
‘khara’ dhrekaanapo vaapi bhaavanashathadhaa bhaveth
As discussed above when the position of eighth Lord, the Rashi lord where Gulika is positioned, 22nd drekana lord moves in CHARA the Bhava will be destroyed
We again discuss the period during which the Bhaava results will occur using the eight shlokas
Lagnam, lagneshastharashyaadhikam vaa,
Bhaavaadheeshe, kaarakay vopayaathe;
Yorge,nyonyam veekshanay vaa thathaasyath
From the Lagna, the Rashi where the Lagna lord is positioned, Navamsa Rasi etc if the Bhava lord or Karaka moves in CHARA the Bhaava results will occur. The Bhaava Lord, Lagna lord joins or looks at each other then its time the Bhaava occurs.
Jeeve thu bhaavaadhipayuktabhamsha-
Thrikonasamsthe sathi bhavalabhaha;
Bhamshathrikonopagathe cha, tadvath.
If the Jupiter moves in CHARA into the rashi where the Lagna lord is positioned, Navamsa rashi, its trikona, the Bhaava results can occur.If Jupiter moves into The Rashi where the Lagna lord and the Bhaava lord joins, Navamsa Rasi its trikona then also the Bhaava results can occur
yadvaa, lagneshabhaaveshakaarakaanaam sphutaaikyabham
yadhaa gachathi devaydya, sthadhaa bhaavaaptiruchyate
Otherwise, Sphutas of Lagna lord , Bhaava Lord, Karaka planet joining together in a Rashi where Jupiter moves in CHARA also produces Bhaava result over time.
Yada vishandhi tatkaalebhavaaptihi praayashaha sutaha
The duration of the Rasi where Jupiter, Moon and Kaaraka moves into Lagna lord’s Navasma Rasi can also produce Bhaava results.
yena grahena yadhuachyam phalam yasya svajanmani;
thasmin grahe lagnagathay thasya thathphalamadhisheth.
When the donor planet of every result goes to the lagna that result will become active.
Svarashyamshatrikonam vaa gathay thasmin phalam vadheth.
When the result oriented planet goes to Rashi of the Lagna lord, Navamsa Rashi, Planet of the result oriented planet, Navamsa rashi, trikonas of all these, results will be assured.
Yadhaa charati lagneshasthadhaa vaa tatphalam vadheth.
When the Lagna lord through CHARA enters Rashi of the result oriented planet, Navamsa Rashi, their trikona the feelings of Bhaava can occur
yadhaa charanthitatraiva jeevabhanusudhakaraha
tadhaa vaa tatphalam vaachya, mashubham shubhameva vaa.
In the above mentioned positions if Jupiter, Sun and Moon enter then Bhaava results can happen. The good and bad results will not have any difference.
The following three slokas will indicate how the Dashadhi can bring good or bad Bhaava results.
Tat karaka syaapi dashaagamay vaa
Bhaavaa bhaveyuryadhi bhaavalaabho
Bhaava Lord, the house positioned in Bhaava, the house looking at Bhaava, Kaaraka, all become the dasa period and for achieving the Bhaava. If its meant to destroy the Bhaava result then it is the same period that is responsible.
Balasahithasyadashaayaamapahaarey vaa bhavanthi bhaavasthey
The Raashi in which Bhaava lord and Kaaraka are present, Navamsa Rashi,the strongest of all these Lords housed in dasha, its malefics can produce good Bhaava result.
Bhaavadho bhavathi thaddhashaagamey;
Bhaavasiddhireethi kaypi subhayaha
Bhaava, Bhaava Lord, Kaaraka – among these which ever is result oriented that will during the dasa period, and when it is positioned in the dasa period of Navamsa Lord it will result in Bhaava result according to some experts.
Now we discuss about the periods during which the Bhaava results are produced or destroyed.
Paapaa bhaavagrhaath trishatrubhavagaha
Veeryaadyaha khalu Bhaavanaathasuhrdho
During the time of birth, each Bhava’s Ashtama Lord, 22nd Drekana Lord if weak and in 6,7,8 positions of the Bhaava then its dasa period will be destructive for the Bhaava. From each Bhaava if it is in 3,6,11 positions with malefics, the benefics in the Kendra trikonas, relatives of Bhaava lord dasa period will bring prosperity for each Bhaav
- From one planet itself the result can be destructive as well as constructive .
- Though a planet can be a donor of a result, another planet can be destroy with the same result. Under these circumstances the thoughts can be as follows
Ekagrahasya sadrshay phalayorvirodhay
Nasham vadheth yadhadikam paripachyathay thath;
Naanyo grahaha sadrshyamanyaphalam hinasthi,
Svaam svaam dashamupagathaha svaphalapradhaha syuhu
One planet itself if you think, in one way it gives one result, but the same result can also destroy.If that happens that result will not exist. But with yoga, drishti and others if one result can become strong that result will occur. One planet will not destroy the result of the other equivalent planet; During its dasha each of the two planets will produce its own result.
The period during which the Bhava results can occur can be discussed in another way
Grahachaaroktakaalaanaam bahoonaam sangathiryadhaa;
Tadhaa thadhanukoolokthadhashaadhou; thathphalam bhaveth.
Whether it’s a good result or a bad result, the based on the planetary motions one or more results can happen at the same time. Based on the result whenever the benefic dasha or malefic times are running the same result will occur.
With the following shloka, we discuss about the common features where the Bhaava result will not happen at all
Shashtam dvadashamashtamam cha munayo
Ye vaa cha bhavaaha svayam
Tatrasthascha yaddheeshvaraasraya imay
No santhi bhaavaa nrnaam;
Jaathaa vaa viphala vinashtavikalaa,-
6,8,12 are the malefic positions. These three malefic lords and yogadhristi’s
- are for whichever bhaava lords, 2. to whichever Bhaavas 3. whichever bhaava lords are in the above mentioned positions, those Bhaavas for all these 3 conditions no results will occur at all; even if it occurs it will be destructive or unused. Of the above mentioned three malefic positions the 8th Bhaava is most malefic.
We now discuss on the Bhava result which will not be used and gets destroyed
Bhaavaadeeshe cha bhaavay sathi balarahithay
Cha grahay kaarakaakyai,
Paapanthahasthey cha, paapairaribhirapi samay-
Paapasthaidh bandhumrthyu vyayabhavanagathai,-
Vaachyaa thadhbnaavahaanihi sphutamiha bhavathi
For the Bhaava lord, Bhaava, Kaaraka
- they are weak 2. they have malefics on both sides 3. they have the yoga and drishti of the malefics and enemies 4. they do not have the yoga and drshti of benefics and relatives 5. malefics occupy its 4,8 and 12 or its trikona – all these will destroy the Bhaava results. From what we discussed if two or three conditions happen then definitely the results will be destroyed.
We now discuss the shlokas on the common symptoms that shows the results flourishing for sure and the results not existing at all
Swamee kaarakakhecharascha balinou
Bhavaha sanrnnaam bhaveth;
Rihipphaaraathimrthisthithou cha vibalou
Bhavoyam nahi sambhavediha nrnnam
Whichever Bhaava’s Lord and Kaaraka are strong and if Lagna is in Kendra and trikona or its favourite position , then the Bhaava result will occur and one gets a chance to enjoy them for sure. If the same planets are weak and are in 6,8 and 12 th Bhaava then there will not be any result,
Even when the Bhava result occurs one can’t feel it and when the result is weak, one gets to feel it – these are the two situations that we discuss below
Yathbhaavaadhipakaarakou sa vikalo-
Bhaava Lord and Kaaraka are at Ucha and Moola trikona planets – but these raashis are in 6 and 8th malefic position – in such cases, even if the Bhaava result occurs one can’t feel it. On the other hand if the planets themselves are in malefic position they become weak. But if those raashis are in the 11th position the results will be not be that good and strong but one can feel the goodness.
We discuss another practice of finding out if Bhaava results can occur
Hatua, tadaikyam “gunapinda” maahu,-
Sthadrkshamishtam yadhi bhaavalaabhaha.
The sphutas of Lagna lord and the Bhaava for which the results are to be known if they are separated alternately, Rashi in which each each house is placed, the characteristic* of each house can be totaled and added. We call this as “gunapindam”. If this is placed in a favourite place then Bhaava results can occur.
(With the help of 5 slokas we describe the characteristics of the above mentioned gunapinda)
- These gunakaaras are described in the 9th chapter and 32nd shloka
Yathbhaavasambhavho yasya tatbhavasthasya durlabaha.
As discussed above, if gunapinda occurs then whichever Bhaava’s gunapinda is a destructive star, which is placed in the malefic place such as 8th Bhaava that Bhaava becomes unreachable.
Gandaantha, mushnam, vishanaadikaa cha;
Vishtischa, Rikthaa, karanam sthiraakyam,
- Samharanakshatram (2) Durithamshakam (3) Gandantham
- Samharanakshatram : Ashwathi, Bharani, Karthika These will gradually turn into creative location destructive stars. In this way each of the three star combinations are creative location destructive stars.
- Durithamshakam: The middle two paadas of the Samharanakshatras are called as “Duritamshakam”
- Gandantham: Ashwathi, Makam, Moolam -The first paadas of these stars, Ayilyam, Ketta, Revathi – The fourth paadas are called as Gandantham.
Yeethe nakshatragandaanthaa vivarjyaha sarvakarmasu
The above is a saying.
- Ushnam (5) Visham
- Ushnam : 1. Ashwathi 2. Rohini 3. Punartham 4. Makam 5. Attham – These 5 stars’ seven and half hours after first seven and half hours; 1. Bharani 2. Makeeram 3. Pooyam 4. Pooram 5. Chitra- These 5 stars’ 5 hours after 55 hours; 1. Karthika, Thiruvaathira 3.Ayilyam 4. Uthram 5. Chothi – These 5 stars’ 9 hours after 21 hours; 1. Vishakam 2. Moolam 3. Thiruvonam 4. Poororuttathi – These 4 stars’ first 8 hours; 1. Anizham 2. Pooratam 3. Avittam 4.Uthrattathi – The last 8 hours of these stars; 1. Ketta 2. Uthradam 3. Chathayam 4.Revathi – These stars’ 10 hours after 20 hours; These are malefic known as “Ushnam”
“Asvyam yaamey bvitheeye, sharamithaghatikaa

The above is the summary.
- Rikthaa: The dates like Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi of the two paksha is called as Riktha

Punaha Punarvvipaschithbhihi kathithaha prathamaadhikaha
Is also a summary
(10 Vaidrtam (11) Ekargallam (12) Saarpamastakam –These doshas will be seen in the above mentioned Gunapindam.
Sarvathra thoyakshaya ithyanishtaha
Dumadhi for 5 planets (13), Bhava Lords of 6,8,12 will have yogadrshti, Gunapindam on 6,8 Bhava, Prshtodayarashi Adhomukharashi (14) positioned in Paaparashi or Papanavamshakam, fenced; On whichever gunapindas do these these doshas locate, thse Bhaavas are malefic.
- Sthirakaranam – The Sthirakaranam will begin from the Utthara half of the Black Chaturdashi.It will end by the Purva half of the White Prathipada. Pullu, four legged animals, snakes, worms are the sthithikaranams.
- Laatam (10) Vaidrtam – These were multiplied and results were unknown and hence cannot be explained here.
- Ekargalam – Keep the 12 rashis and take the suryasphuta and see the day. Out of which ( whatever is remaining) whatever is the star, that star and its 2nd, 7th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th stars are the ones having Ekargala dosham. However, as mentioned before, wherever the nazhika position is located on the current star that has not completed 60 nazhika (hour) the stars that were mentioned above will have the dosham only for that period.

- Saarpamasthakam: In the regular yoga the uttara half of Anizham star is called as Saarpamastakam.
Chandrarkayogay maithranthyadalam syaal saarpamastakam.
- Dhoomadhi Planets: These 5 planets are created during each of its time period.
- In the Suryasphuta add 4 raashis and 13 dates and we get Dhooma planet.
- Keep only 12 raashis , take out Dhooma graham(planet), then we get a planet called “Vyatheepatham”.
- If we add 6 rashis to this Vyathipatham we get a planet called ‘Parivesham’
- If we take away Parivesham from the 12 rashis we get a planet called as ‘Indradhanussu’.
- If we add 17 dates to this Indradhanussu we get a planet called “Ketu”.
This is how the Dhoomadhi grahas(planets) are formed.

- Amritaghatika: As discussed, from Karthika to whatever naazhika is shown as the serial numbers in the letter format, in the below mentioned shloka is complete, then every four naazhika is “amrutam”
Bheemo, Raama, Jalam, Mrgo, Visha, Vibhuhu, Ksheeno, Vaman, Vishwanudhrambho, shambhu, bhava, Jalam, Jala, Bhrgu, rdurgam, Bhavam, Devanul, Vidwan, Vega, Bhagaha, Prabhu, rnnava, Diva, Vishnuhu, Prabhaa, Jeevanu, nnagneyaadhishu thaanatheethya paratho naadyashchathasromrtham.
The above mentioned are all very common. The fifth Bhaava has some specialities which we discuss below.
Kinthu, thathra yamakandakamaandhyo-
If the gunapinda is on the fifth Bhaava, that will fall on yugma Raashu ( Dual rashis like Edavam, Karkatakam), yugma navamsa and the napumsaka planets’ yoga drshti will fall on it and create dangerous results. However if this Bhaava has yoga, drshti of Gulika and Yamakandakan, then the results will be extremely good.
After discussing the malefic results, wse discuss about the good results provided by the Gunapinda
The Praanamsha, Dehamsha, Srshtinakshatra, Amrutaghatika(15), good planets’ yoga drshti, veliyettam, oordhuamukha raashis, Gunapindam are all in the Kendra trikona then its good for the Bhaavas.
As mentioned in the 40th shloka Vishti and some doshas will have to be known from thithi, and we now discuss about how thithi is formed
Evam Bhaavagrahanaam cha gunadoshou vichinthayeth;
Swasphutaadeva sarveshaam bhaanum thyakthvaa thithim viduhu.
This is how we need to think about the characteristics of Bhaava and Graha. Wherever thithi is required,Sun has to be sacrificed from its sphutas and then the outcome will be the thithi
We end the chapter on Bhaava Vichaara Prakarana.
