JEEVA-SAREERA THEORY OF PREDICTION -I

By

Iranganti Rangacharya, India.

I am reminded of the Jeeva-Sareera Theory in Mr. H.R.Shankar’s article, “A Study of Nakshatras”.  Some years ago, I met a good old astrologer, reputed for his Jeeva-Sareera Theory.  “Vidyaya Vidya,” as our ancients say, I could learn a little of this system from him.  I did not see ‘Meena’ and I do not know whether Mr. H.R.Shankar has ‘Meena’ or any other source also for his Jeeva-Sareera mention in his article.  However I would like to outline the theory, so that it may be open to horoscopic verifications.

We come to know of terms chiefly in this system.

They are

  1. Srashta (creator),
  2. Jeeva (soul),
  3. Sareera (body),
  4. Samchita (accumulated),
  5. Prarabdha (current)

and

  1. Aagaami (future).

The constellation lord of the sign occupied by Atmakaraka is called srashta.  The jeeva and sareera planets have to be found out for all 12 houses.  The jeeva planet of any house is the constellation lord of the lord of that particular Bhava or house.  The sareera planet of any bhava is the lord of the sign occupied by the constellation lord of the Bhava lord.  For example, the jeeva planet of the birth ascendant is the constellation lord of the lord of birth ascendant.

The sareera planet of the birth ascendant is the lord of the sign occupied by the constellation lord of the lord of the birth ascendant.  Here we observe that the reckoning of sareera planets differs from the one briefed by Mr. Shankar.  In his exposition constellation lords are devised for both jeeva and sareera reckoning.  In the present exposition, each bhava is seen to have jeeva-sareera division, based on constellation lord and sign lord respectively.  The jeeva-sareera theory, by the very terms, appears to pertain to the prognosis of spiritual aspect.  It cannot but relate also to the presage of the materialistic phase of life lest the spirit of interest for the predictive system should go away.  As the term srashta means creator, the srashta planet would be as important as atmakaraka in Jaimini.  The jeeva planets are called samchita planets.  The sareera planets are called prarabdha.  Those that do not come under both samchita and prarabdha are called aagaami planets.

  1. If srashta is a benefit and occupies a quadrant from the birth ascendant, he confers good yoga to the native. Srashta, though a malefic, if exalted, confers a good yoga.  The yoga would diminish if he becomes aagaami.
  2. Benefics should become samchita and prarabdha Malefics should not become samchita and prarabdha.  Benefics should not become aagaami.  The benefics are the Full Moon, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter.  The malefics are New Moon, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.
  3. If a benefic becomes both jeeva and sareera of any Bhava, beneficence of the Bhava is assured. If the same benefic is in his own moolatrikona or exaltation house, the beneficence of that house is increased.
  4. If a malefic becomes both jeeva and sareera of any house, maleficence of the Bhava is assured. If the same malefic is in his own moolatrikona or exaltation house, the maleficence of the Bhava is reduced.
  5. If jeeva or samchita planet is benefic and sareera or prarabdha planet is a malefic, the exterior or the mundane aspect of this Bhava appears to be spoiled while the interior or the spiritual aspect of the Bhava is unperturbed.
  6. If the jeeva or samchita planet be a malefic and the sareera or prarabdha planet be a benefic, the exterior or the mundane aspect of the Bhava appears to be good, while the interior or spiritual aspect is spoiled. The stronger of the two predominates the Bhava.
  7. The effect of the Bhava will be displayed in the manner of sattwa, rajasa and tamasa natures of jeevasareera planets of the house. If both the planets differ in nature, the nature of the stronger one predominates in a clash between the two.
  8. Similarly if both are inimical mutually, the stronger of the two prevails.
  9. In the male nativities, if female planets become aagaami and in the female natives if male planets become aagaami, the natives will not be lucky with regard to their sex partners in life.
  10. If the jeeva and sareera planets of any Bhava occupy the same house in a nativity, a good yoga is assured to the native. The yoga increases by virtue of their being in own, moolatrikona and exaltation position.
  11. Parivartana Yoga of jeeva and sareera planets will confer the best yoga, giving good name and position to the native. Now let us examine the validity of jeeva-sareera theory of predictions by some illustrations.

chart 206

Saturn, Atmakaraka, occupies Libra whose lord Venus is in Krittika constellation.  So the Sun, the lord of the constellation Krittika, becomes srashta.  Birth ascendant is Leo whose lord the Sun is in the constellation Aridra.  The lord of Aridra is Rahu.  Hence Rahu becomes jeeva of the birth ascendant Leo.  The sun is in Aridra whose lord Rahu occupies Gemini.  So the lord of Gemini, Mercury becomes the sareera of the birth ascendant Leo.

The jeeva planets in the nativity are samchita.  They are Rahu, Saturn, Jupiter and the Sun.  The sareera planets in the nativity are prarabdha.  They are Mercury, Venus and Saturn.  Thus we observe six planets, viz., the Sun, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury and Venus, influencing jeeva and sareera o fhte 12 Bhavas in the nativity.  Three planets, viz., the Moon, Mars and KEtu do not become either jeeva or sareera of any Bhava.  It means that these three planets do not influence any Bhava.  These are called aagaami.  In Chart 1, the Sun who is srashta is associated with Rahu.  The jeeva and sareera planets of the birth ascendant, the 5th, the 8th and the 12th Bhavas are Rahu and Mercury.  Rahu is associated with the Sun, lord of the birth ascendant.  Mercury is in the inimical hosue, the 12th from the birth ascendant.  The native had mental torture and bodily ailment throughout his life due to his badly bent body caused by an incurable complaint.  He was cordial to his friends and relatives.  Yet he was once administered poison and once or twice attempts were made to injure him with a knife.  Though Mercury, the significator for education, is the sareera planet of the 5th Bhava, the native secured M.Sc. late after B.Sc. and obtained his Ph.D. after many years.  With regard to his 2nd, 4th, 9th and 11th Bhavas, Saturn and Venus are jeeva and sareera and while the one is exalted, the other is in his own house.  Mutually both are friends.  He inherited good landed property from his mother and had fabulous money.  He died of heart attack at the age of 54.

Aagaami planets are the Sun, the Moon, Rahu and Saturn.  Chart 2 is Adolf Hitler, the fuehrer of Germany.

Venus, the lord of birth ascendant Libra, has become srashta.  He is i Kendra (angle) from the Ascendant.  The war-like planet Mars becomes sareera for the first eight Bhavas and for the 10th Bhava.  Besides, Mars is strong in his own house and is in a Kendra from the Ascendant.  The rajasic and sattwic nature of Venus and Mercury on jeeva, the interior plane of the personality, are weakened by their weak position, as against the powerful and dominant influence of Mars on sareera, the exterior side of the personality.

The Sun, Rahu, Ketu and Jupiter are aagaami planets.  The native of Chart 3 was Sri Thyagaraja Swamy, the great saint musician of the South.  The Moon, lord of the birth ascendant Cancer strong in his own house becomes srashta.  The association of malefic KEtu, with the Moon has no effect as Ketu becomes an aagaami planet.  The Moon becomes both jeeva and sareera of the 4th Bhava.  Venus becomes both jeeva and sareera of the 2nd Bhava.  Venus is strong in his own house, the 4th from the Ascendant.  Thus the Moon and Venus, karakas for music are seen to bear testimony to Sri Thyagaraja Swamy’s extraordinary talent for both composition and singing.
