Moon-Based Yogas

Only Five Planets

MOON-BASED YOGAS are those which are formed by planetary positions reckoned from the Moon in the natal charts.  I shall deal with three such Yogas, namely, Sunapha, Anapha and Durudhara.  In all the three Yogas, the Sun, Rahu and Ketu have no involvement in their foundation.  It means only five planets, namely, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are involved in these three Yogas.

  1. Sunapha Yoga is formed when the 2nd house from the Moon is occupied by planets other than the Sun, Rahu and Ketu.
  2. Anapha Yoga is formed when the 12th house from the Moon is occupied by planets other than the Sun, Rahu and Ketu.
  3. Durudhara Yoga is formed when both the 2nd and 12th houses from the Moon are occupied planets other than the Sun, Rahu and Ketu.

Sunapha and Anapha Yogas

The 2nd house from the Moon may have one, two, three, four or all the five planets in the formation of Sunapha.  By one planet in the 2nd house of the Moon, there could be five varieties of Sunapha because of the five planets Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn each being involved.

There could be ten varieties of Sunapha by two planets in the 2nd house of the Moon.  There could be ten varieties of Sunapha by three planets.  There could be five varieties of Sunapha by four planets.  However, only one form of Sunapha is possible by all the five being in the 2nd from the Moon.  So there could be 31 (5+10+10+5+1 ) varieties of Sunapha in all.  Let us count them by the arithmetic principle of permutations and combinations:

1 planet = 5C1 =

5

2 planets = 5C2 =

5 x 4

= 10

2 x 1

3 planets = 5C3

5 x 4 x 3

= 10

3 x 2 x 1

4 planets = 5C4

5 x 4 x 3 x 2

= 5

4 x 3 x 2 x 1

5 planets = 5C5

5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1

= 1

5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1

So the total number of Sunapha Yogas is 31 (5 +10 + 10 +5 +1).  Similarly, the total number of Anapha Yoga varieties also could be 31.

Varieties of Durudhara Yoga

  1. Durudhara Yogas can be formed by one, two, three or four planets in the 12th from the Moon, when the 2nd house from the Moon is occupied one planet.

1 planet (in 12th )= 4C1 =

4

2 planets (in 12th ) = 4C2 =

4 x 3

= 6

2 x 1

3 planets (in 12th) = 4C3

4 x 3 x 2

= 4

3 x 2 x 1

4 planets = 4C4

4 x 3 x 2 x 1

= 1

4 x 3 x 2 x 1

So there could be 15 varieties of Durudhara Yoga with one variety of Sunapha.  Therefore for 5 varieties of Sunapha, 75 varieties of Durudhara Yoga are possible.

  1. The Durudhara Yogas can be formed by one, two, or three planets in the 12th from the Moon, when two planets occupy the 2nd from the Moon.

Thus we get 7 varieties of Durudhara Yoga when the 2nd house from the Moon has two planets of Sunapha.  Therefore for 10 varieities (2 x 5) of Sunapha, we get 7 x 10 = 70 varieties of Durudhara Yoga.

1 planet (in 12th )= 3C1 =

3

2 planets (in 12th ) = 3C2 =

3 x 2

3

2 x 1

3 planets (in 12th) = 3C3

3 x 2 x 1

= 1

3 x 2 x 1

Thus we get 7 varieties of Durudhara Yoga when the 2nd house from the Moon has two planets of Sunapha.  Therefore for 10 varieities (2 x 5) of Sunapha, we get 7 x 10 = 70 varieties of Durudhara Yoga.

  1. The Durudhara Yogas can be formed by one or two planets in the 12th house from the Moon, when 3 planets occupy the 2nd from the Moon.

1 planet (in 12th )= 2C1 =

2

2 planets (in 12th ) = 2C2 =

2 x 1

1

2 x 1

Therefore, three ( 2+1) Durudhara yogas can be formed for Sunapha with 3 planet in the 2nd from the Moon for 10 varieties of Sunapha.  We get (10×3)= 30 varieties of Durudhara.

  1. Similarly with 4 planets in the Sunapha Yoga (in the 2nd from the Moon), we get 5 varieties of Durudhara Yoga with each planet in the 12th (5C1 = 5).  And no Durudhara Yoga is possible with Sunapha with all the 5 planets in the 2nd from the Moon.

Therefore, the total number of Durudhara Yogas can be (75+70+30+5)=180.

Conclusion

  1. If the Moon-based Yogas are absent in the natal chart, the native suffers from Kemadruma Yoga.  It means the Raja Yogas disappeaer like the elephants disappearing on seeing the lion ( harim drishtvaa yatha dwipaha ).
  2. No Kemadruma Yoga is formed if the said planets occupy the 4th and 10th houses reckoned from the Moon.
  3. If the Moon-based Yogas are absent in the Rasi chart, their presence in the Navamsa chart can generate Raja Yoga.
  4. The Raja Yoga is more certain if the number of planets causing it is more and/or strongly placed.

Chart 1 belongs to Dr. B.V.Raman.  The 2nd and 12th from the Moon are vacant.  Hence Kemadruma Yoga is formed.  But it is neutralised by the presence of three planets in the 4th from the Moon.  Hence Raja Yoga is confirmed.

chart 199

Chart 2 belongs to Amitabh Bachhan.  The 12th from the Moon is occupied by Venus, Mars and exalted Mercury and Sun.  The 10th from the Moon is occupied by exalted Jupiter.  So four planets are involved in the Moon-based Anapha Yogas.

chart 200

Chart 3[1] belongs to a scientific officer.  The Moon based Yogas are absent in the Rais.  Hence Kemadruma Yoga should arise.  But instead, the native enjoys Raja Yoga because the Moon-based yogas are present in Navamsa.
