Spring Equinox (I) 20.03.2012, 5h15 (00h00GMT

ASTROLOGY 17E3

Astronomically, the equinoxes are the places in which the apparently route of the Sun, named ecliptic, cuts the celestial equator, and the solstices are the maximum and the minimim distance of the Sun towards it.

The intersections between the ecliptic and the celestian equator in March and September are the vernal point or the first degree in Aries (when the Sun passes from the southern to the northern latitude of the celestian sphere) and, respectively, the autumnal point or the first degree in Libra (when the Sun passes from the northern to the southern latitude of the celestial sphere). They are the Spring and the Autum equinoxes. Their common feature is the equality between the lengh of the day and night.

The maximum distance of the Sun above the celestia equator is the northest point of its route along the Zodiac and the first degree in Cancer. The maximum distance of the Sun below the ecelestial equator is the southest point of its route along the Zodiac and the first degree In Capricorn. They are the Summer and the Winter solstices. Their commom feature is the inequal lengh of the day and night: the longest day of the year is at the Summer solstice and the longest night of the year is at the Winter solstice.

The solstices and the equinoxes indicate the astronomical beginning of the seasons. They are the base of the tropical year, which takes into consideration the passing of the Sun through the zodiacal belt (The Zodiac of the twelve astrological Sign), from the Sign of Aries to the Sign of Pisces.

The apparent movement of the Sun on the ecliptic generates the phenomenon of the precession of solstices and equinoxes. It was studied by the Babiloninans, the Egyptians, the Greeks and the Hindu astronomers and astrologers, as we can say in the exceptional book of prof. dr. S. Madhavan, Muddle of Ayanamsa. Hipparchus discovered the phenomenon of precession and defined for the first time the tropical and the sideral year. He was followed by Copernicus, Ticho Brache, Galileo Galilei, Newton and many others in Western astronomy and astrology. Under the name of ayanachalana we find it in Suryasiddhantha, the awesome hindu treatise of astronomy. Aryabhata I, Suryadevayajvan, Varahamihira estimated the moment when the sideral and the tropical year took place at the same moment. Munjala explained the phenomenon of precession and Bhaskara II gave the theory of the complet revolusion of theequinoxes. Prof. dr. S. Madhavan points sinthetically in his book: “It seems that the sideral system (nirayana) was used in astrology from the predictive purposes, while the tropical one (sayana) was used in astronomy for observing the equinoxes and solstices.”

The equivalent of the tropical year’s equinoxes and solstices in the Vedic astronomy and astrology are the Gandata points. “Gandanta” is a sanskrit word which comes from gand („knot”) şi anta („end”). They are connecting points generated by the meeting of the solar and lunar zodiac and they are placed between:

-Pisces (Nakshatra Revati) and Aries (Nakshatra Ashwini)

-Cancer (Nakshatra Aslesha) and Lion (Nakshatra Magha)

-Scorpio (Nakshatra Mula) and Sagittarius (Nakshatra Jyeshtha).

Although the Gandanta points are not at all equinoxes and solstices, energetically they are identical and can be considerent as similar to them.

The equinoxes and the solstices represent the entrance of the Sun in the cardibal Signs which correspond to the cardinal points (Aries – the East, Libra – the West, Cancer – the North and Capricorn – the South). All of them have the nature of the Fire Element, because they generate the energies, they direct energies and they are able to lead the energies towards very well defined aims.

The Gandanta points represent the entrance of the Sun ]n a different kind of Fire:

-the Aries is the heroic Fire, able to open new ways, and a leader in a spontaneous manner

-the Lion is the royal Fire, a very generous one and a leader in a counscious manner

-the Saggitarius is the leading Fire, an idealistic, spiritual and divine one.

The succesive passings of the Sun – the symbol of the Divine Self Atman in Vedic astrology and spirituality – through these 7 (4+3) points of discontinuity (hiatus) which are both the equinoxes and solstices and the Gandanta points signify the stages of the human being evolution. Whenever the Sun reaches the moments of the equinoxes and solstices, the human being receives in his/her sublte bodies sublime, refined and divine energies for him/she to accelerate his/her perfection. Whenever the Sun reaches the Gandanta points, him/she has to “cut” the energetical knots for realizing the spiritual jump or for becoming aware of the spiritual lesson which has to be solved and passed by.

Because the Spring equinox is important for the whole planet, we will read its chart without taking into account the houses and the planets in the houses. We will pay attention only to the planets in the Signs.

At the moment of the Spring equinox, there are very strong:

-Venus in Taurus, its own nocturnal sign, of yin energetic polarity

-Sun exalted in Aries, the diurnal sign of Mars, of of yang energetic polarity

-Saturn exalted in Libra, the dirunal sign of Venus, of yang energetic polarity

-the mutual reception Mars (in Virgo, of yin energetic polarity ) – Mercury (in Aries, of yang energetic polarity).

They are the conductors of the celestial orchestra, each of them having at its disposal a small group of “employees” which works for it.

*Jupiter (in Taurus) and Saturn (in Libra) work for Venus; Pluto (in Capricorn) works for Saturn; Lilith, the North Node and the asteroid Junon work for Jupiter; we can say that Venus has the most employees. The sign of Taurus is the expression of the Earth Element and the Sign of Libra is the expression of Airy Element. The earth supports the growing up and the maturization of all the life forms. The air supports any kind of changes between any kind of energies. Together, these Elements confer the consistency of the goals for long time (for them to be fuflfilled), the permanence of the good results, the sharing of all kind of values between the people.

*The Moon and the asteroid Kiron work for Neptune; the energy of Neptune spiritualizes and integrates in the divine harmony any phenomenon and evolutive process. It is the superior octave of Venus (concerning the elevated spirituality and the artistical refinement expressed in all the fields of our life). Neptune is, too, the the superior octave of Mercury (the intuitive and spiritual knowledge is on a higher level towards the mental, rational and discursive knowledge). In the subtle environment of the planet Earth very strong and pure energies can manifest themselves, giving us spiritual force and sensitivity, creative imaginmation, firm faith.

*For the mutual reception Mars (in Virgo) – Mercury (in Aries), the Sun and Uranus work in Aries, and the South Node works in Gemini.

The strong conjunction made by the Sun, Mercury and Uranus in the first 5 degrees of the Aries sign represents the basic energy of all our processes and actions, civic and spiritual courage, the solar expression and the combative attitude. Due to such a conjunction, the mutual reception Mars-Mercury supports all our processes of sublimating the low/bad energies in very elevated or superior ones, clearly directed towards noble, altruistic and spiritual objectives or ideals.

The strong connection between the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars), the social ones (Jupiter and Saturn) and the transpersonal Uranus, Neptune, Pluto underlines that we could belong to a very extensive and evolutive cosmic program. Such a cosmic program tends to become “concret” during this astronomical year, both in our private and collective, planetary life.

The very well balanced energies yin-yang emphasize the beautiful pair between the Autumn and Spring equinoxes. The Autumn equinox in September 2011 was a very Venusian one. The Spring equinox in March 2012 is a very Martian one.

The Autumn equinox:

-took places 2 days before Shiva Ratri

-took place on a Friday, day governed by Venus

-it was at the noon, when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky

-Venus was in the sign of Libra, its own diurnal place

The Spring equionox:

-took place in a day followed by Shiva Ratri

-took place in a Tuesday, day governed by Mars

-took places very soon after the sunrise, when the energies are very pure

-took place at the planetary hour of Mars.

Such an interesting “pair” or dialogue of energies could signify a cosmic game between Shiva and Shakti, realized at a galactic dimensions and giving a spiritual significance to our life.
